Abstract
I wrote my dissertation at a constantly evolving company where employees are committed, their professionalism, attitude to each other and to work allows for further growth. In the course of my work, I have experienced that employees are happy to take innovations and modifications that make their work easier and provide enthusiastic help in introducing new things. In the first part of my dissertation, I introduced the organization that has grown from a small garage company to a versatile company over the past 28 years. The description clearly shows the determination, organization and outstanding strategic thinking that was needed to become a dynamically developing organization and become a member of a Finnish group of companies today. Since I was working on a product made of rubber raw material, after the presentation of the company, I felt the need to describe the technology and production of the mixture that forms the basis of rubber products, the methods of rubber industry technology and the most common errors in production. I felt the need, among other things, because the production of rubber compounds and the production process of rubber products themselves are not commonplace, not common, and aren’t known to most. I then turned to the topic underlying my dissertation. In my work, I aimed to reduce the amount of internal scrap of rubber products, so as a first step, I collected data on the amount of non-compliant pieces reported by factory workers. Taking into account the data of the data collection sheet, I prepared a PARETO analysis, based on which I was able to reveal the list of products that provide most of the internal scrap quantities. I then carried out further analyzes, so that it was revealed what kind of error types had occurred with the largest quantity of products giving the wrong number of items, and which ones were significant. As a result of the analyzes, I had to deal with the manufacturing process of the Rubber foot product. During the production process of the rubber product I examined, we faced the problem that there was a large amount of burring during production, which on the one hand could not be eliminated by rework, and on the other hand it did not achieve the expected production and delivery efficiency. It led to complaints and thus dissatisfaction by the customer. We saw the solution to the problem in a shift in technology. The idea for the technology change came from the production of other rubber products made from liquid silicone.
