Abstract
The researcher’s aim with presented thesis was to reduce/eliminate a metals industry’s material –and information flow complications. It was the main focus of the Corporation, because they are suffering from a shortage of human resources. For this reason, the distribution of the tasks and responsibilities, the clarification of communication levels and regulations with the implementation of a newly created system, introduced by the researcher, resulted in a faster and more efficient everyday working process. Not least, the new system contributed to the quality of their services. During the error detection process our first step was to create a flow diagram. At this point the board of directors already begun to grow enthusiastic about the intention of the thesis, because when the diagram was in the making, they were able to find errors that have not been discovered before. After that we ran our PFMEA examination together, in which every person of the convened staff was really helpful with. Where it was possible, we took immediate action against every discrepancy discovered. In the thesis researcher introduced errors with the highest RPN numbers to make the demonstration and comprehension easier, but all of the issues raised and the solution the them can be found in the attachments. Researcher has developed a documentation and organisation process with the support of the directors. Then we made it clear to the employees, who were enlightened about who is responsible for what and the people chosen for certain tasks received special education, so that they could do their job properly. In the beginning of the making of the flow diagram, the researcher persuaded the directors about the necessity of her assignment, and also had to convince the employees about why these changes were important for them as well. Researcher wished to gain their acceptance towards her assignment, by allowing them to participate in certain parts of the process, as an example, in the parts of 5S’s work processes, because she believed that if we are part of something, we can become more committed to it over the long-term operation. Future plans involve a procedure to develop a method, that allows it to be understood by everyone and make it accessible to control the flow of information and material, so that the newcomers will also have the tools that are needed for them to be able to import the adequate work culture.Later a problem to be solved is a suitable place properly designed for storing, for this the Corporation is thinking about building a hall, which was already among their plans. However, they want to solve this problem as well, because they are aware how profitable it is to store the materials appropriately. The process is being tested, and if the documentation and marking system in Excel can be used properly and effectively in the long run, the Corporation is planning to invest in a software that is capable to handle these procedures of the Corporation and also the ones that are now being used with a different software. Researcher has proposed an idea to the Corporation, that when they are selecting the software, to think carefully about the applicability of giving and denying access, because there is information in the system that can endanger the rights of the employees, and it is also important to acquire a software in the future that is suitable for the size and activity of the Corporation.
