Abstract

In my dissertation I presented how to improve the assembly of one of the plastic products manufactured in T-Plasztik Kft. In the first chapter, I described the company’s growth rates, investments, and technologies used. I also mentioned the available certifications and the change in ownership structure. In the second chapter, I gave an overview of the characteristics, properties and drawing specifications of the product discussed in my dissertation. I have outlined the product differences within the product family and the application of the product. After that, I presented the mass production sizes and illustrated the production process of the product with the help of the flow chart, illustrated with pictures. I also covered quality control, which is closely related to production, for a few thoughts. Last but not least, I presented the 5S method developed during the production of the product. In the third chapter, I collected the typical failures and the possible causes of failures in terms of both internal failures and complaints, and then plotted them according to the quantities of each failure and the percentage distribution of the failure. The next step was to determine the top 3 failure in both groups. In the fourth chapter, I am looking for the answer to the reasons behind the occurrence of these failures and I propose solutions to them. Due to the fact that the two analyses had an error image that is the same, so I ended up evaluating 5 error images below. As the assembly error is the most significant in terms of the severity of the problem, I also placed the greatest emphasis on this in my dissertation. To find the root cause, we used the Ishikawa diagram to help us, and then we started testing the pieces in our own measurement lab to filter out the final conclusion, the root cause of the error. The tests showed clear correlations, from which it was concluded that the non-centrally mounted bayonet adaptor results in noncompliance. To eliminate this, an assembly machine was incorporated into production. The machine-mounted products were completely centric, so the basic problem was solved. What’s more, the assembly process was crowned by the fact that the press was designed to operate on the so-called Poka Yoke, so another failure was eliminated at the same time as the assembly fault was remedied. In the fifth chapter, we describe additional solution suggestions in order to increase the reliability of the product we manufacture. I raised three options, one of which was implemented. Reducing the inner diameter of the bayonet overmolded product, as shown by the test result, yielded the expected results. We have succeeded in creating a much more reliable production and, with it, a much more reliable, better quality product. My further goal is to be able to bring such efficient products and eliminate the most significant causes of failure in several similar products. As the company does not only produce plastics, I would like to extend further development options to products manufactured by the rubber and technical foam plant. When introducing new products, we will strive to make the most of the opportunities provided by quality management methods, tools and techniques.
