Abstract
In the course of my dissertation, I aimed to compile a document with which I can help the maintenance professionals of the Danube Refinery to make short- and long-term maintenance decisions for the FCC operating flue gas system. The plant has been in operation for nearly 40 years, with problems and repairs and possible modifications spanning several generations, so to ensure reliable maintenance of the key production unit, there is a need to conduct a lifetime depletion test and summarize some important data and events. Fulfilling the above effort, in the first part of my dissertation I briefly but in sufficient detail introduced the plant and described the technology of catalytic cracking. I have detailed the essential role of the flue gas system in the process. I covered the stresses, gathered the currently known problems and anomalies. I was looking for correlations between the failures, as a result of which I named the tissue material damage caused by creep and the thermal fatigue. There is also the possibility of thermal overload during operation and incorrect changes to the planned route during maintenance in recent years. Together, they can be responsible for multiple failures of compensators and static components in the system. I then performed an economic analysis of the maintenance strategy of the compensators operating in the system. As a result of the study, the replacement of the waveforms of the equipment proved to be more favorable, but I explained in the given chapter that in the long run, the purchase of a new compensator is a more reasonable choice. In the second half of the dissertation, I presented the test plan, which included the destructive and non-destructive tests required by the authority for the further operation of the affected structures, as well as the condition of the flue gas system in terms of depletion. Finally, I reported the results of the tests: the advanced state of creep damage caused by high temperatures and phase separations is clear, but it is not yet time to prepare for a full replacement, and further operation is no longer risk-free. Certain repairs and revisions are already essential. It is a good idea to monitor changes to your system and consider switching to cold-walled technology before it expires.
