Abstract

My dissertation, takes a comprehensive view of the factors that may cause of an integrated oil, gas, and petrochemical plant maintenance activities cost increases during the planning process. In the first part of my thesis focuses on indirect factors that affect MOL's maintenance costs. These effects are, the effects of labor emigration and lack of skilled workers. In this section, I also explained how exchange rate changes effect on purchasing costs and how it can shape the price of a product to be purchased. I also reflected how the minimum wage increase – as a multy annual trend, being a source of human resources – how entrepreneurial fees have been affected in the recent period. Using Swot analysis, I demonstrate strengths, weaknesses, threats, and potential alternatives for MOL's maintenance process using, and outlined possible alternatives that could enable the company's maintenance department to continually improve. However, in order to get a better and more precise understanding of MOL DS maintenance challenges, I have made an Ishikawa diagram which I examined from the point of view of human, methodological, social/political, maintenance material, and process equipment’s. The examined factors have been explored extensively, on my contribution experiences basis and through questioning. This is the way to try to ensure that I have a deeper understanding of the sources of the challenging factors. After reviewing the severity of the problems that have arisen, I intend to include factors that may dampen or mitigate MOL's cost increase. I needed to see the relationships and the possible solutions in a wide aspect, so I used brainstorming to summarize the problem solving options that lead to the goal and reduce the cost increase. At this point, clarified for me, that my first hypothesis would be fulfilled. Maintenance costs can be specifically reduced, by using these resources more efficiently, based on data analysis over recent years. These solutions treat both as important factors, exploration of "internal reserves" and response to external factors. This suggestion resulted an efficient solution, as I had to find factors that reduce costs, both in the short and long term. Increasing the duration of maintenance projects is part of a long-term strategy, as measuring this factor is best justified by increasing the operating equipment’s availability, thereby supporting production profitability. Reducing human resources from the outset would have a cost-cutting effect, but there are pro/contra principles that serve the company's long-term goals, as evidenced by my Lewin field analysis. However, as MOL's working hour goals showed, it needs to achieve a near 20% reduction in this area, by increasing operating equipment’s availability with reducing urgent and unscheduled maintenance. The main challenge is to implement the vast majority of maintenance work within planned limits (TA and short technological shut down), thereby increasing availability and optimizing production downtime. Resulting a high plannability of the maintenance costs, both in terms of labor hours, labor usage and maintenance material costs. Finally, can be stated MOL is aiming to further increase market efficiency while remaining in the market for the long term. The implementation of these goals will be determined by the correctness of further management decisions.
