Abstract
The aim of my thesis was to analyse and evaluate the efficiency and cost - effectiveness of the current maintenance mechanism of the Gearwheel Maintenance Plant. The topicality of my topic lies in the fact that time has passed considerably over this means of transport, one of the oldest vehicle constructions of the BKV Zrt. A line reconstruction is almost on the cards, but unfortunately this will not come to fruition in the coming years, so it is vital to maintain maintenance and improve the curr ent strategy. To explore this topic, the primary focus was on the rail vehicle maintenance methods and the current planned preventive maintenance strategy of the plant. The current capabilities of the plant, its equipment and the technology architecture of the cycle system process were then presented. My analysis concluded that the breakdown rates are higher than desirable, with the rates for the number of vehicles awaiting repair being a direct cause of vehicle wear and tear. My actual recommendations are related to the vehicle's weaknesses. By comparison, the universal system models, the plant procedure lacks diagnostic tests, which in my opinion are essential for efficient and economical operation in a 48 year old design. I believe that by introducing these tests, the number of unexpected breakdowns, essential for continued safe operation, can be reduced. I am determined to improve and modernise my current and future workplace, so that our fleet will continue to be a respected part of Budapest's tourist circuit in the near future.
