Abstract

With advances in the methods used to produce metals and metal products, and thanks to continuous developments in the engineering industry, new high-strength fine-grained weldable steels have appeared in the last decade in the production of pressure vessels, one of which is P460. Tank bottom manufacturers such as Technokov Ltd. cannot afford to ignore the need to pick up the thread of industrial development and introduce steel grades that are less well known today into their own product range if they want to survive as a market player. There is a clear demand from rail vehicle manufacturers for such high-strength steel tanks, as this is an easy way to ensure a reduction in rolling deadweight. The emerging material grades also require special attention from manufacturers compared to the previously established grades (e.g. P235, P355, etc.), as the reduction in wall thickness is accompanied by a much greater importance to ensure proper micro and macro structure of the tanks. The objective of my thesis was to investigate the raw material available to Technokov Ltd. for the production of P460 steel tanks, so that a similar manufacturing problem to the previous one would not occur in the future due to a combination of inappropriate technological steps and parameters. As the final result of my thesis, we have successfully selected a production plant with WB 531 certification and a plant without such certification, but capable of supplying P460 raw material, and the technological parameters for these raw materials, which can be used to meet the customer requirements with a high degree of certainty.
