Abstract

A dolgozatom fő témája két web alapú menedzsment felület összehasonlítása három különböző Linux disztribúción. A disztribúciókat a distrowatch.com segítségével választottam ki. A három disztribúció rendelkezik a legtöbb letöltéssel, amelyek a szerver kategóriába tartoznak. Továbbá ezen disztribúciók között van két olyan terjesztés, melyeket egy-egy vállalat fejleszt vagy tart fent és van egy, amelyet önkéntesek fejlesztenek. A vizsgálatom középpontjában az alkalmazhatóság, valamint a kérdés, hogy akár egy Linux-os rendszerekhez nem értő, de Windows szerverek üzemeltetésében jártas és alapvető hálózati ismeretekkel rendelkező személy képes lenne-e Linux szerverek üzemeltetésére a felületek segítségével? A célom eléréséhez virtualizált környezetet használtam, hogy elkerüljem a hardver kompatibilitási problémákat, valamint, hogy mind a két menedzsment felületet ugyan abban a tesztkörnyezetben vizsgálhassam meg a pontosabb eredmények elérése érdekében. A dolgozatomban alapvető rendszer karbantartási és konfigurálási feladatok elvégzését mutatom be, kontrasztba állítva a két felület nyújtotta lehetőségeket. A kutatásom során arra a következtetésre jutottam, hogy a két felület célközönsége nem megegyező. Amíg az egyik menedzsment felület a letisztultságra és az alapvető konfigurálási lehetőségekre törekszik, addig a másik felület a lehető legtöbb konfigurálási lehetőséget próbálja nyújtani a felhasználó számára. Ezen információk birtokában valószínűsíthető, hogy melyik felület teljesíti az általam meghatározott elvárásokat. The main topic of my thesis is the comparison of two web-based management interfaces on three different Linux distribution. I chose the distributions with the help of distrowatch.com. The chosen distributions have the most downloads, which belong to the server category. Furthermore, among these distributions there are two distributions that are developed or maintained by a company and there is one that developed by volunteers. The focus of my examination is the applicability and the question that whether even a person who is not familiar with Linux systems, but has the experience in maintaining Windows servers and has basic knowledge of networking, would be able to maintain a Linux server with the help of these management interfaces? I have used virtual environment to achieve my goal. With the help of virtual environment I was able to avoid hardware compatibility issues and I had the opportunity to test the management interfaces in the same environment in order to obtain more accurate results. In my thesis, I am going to show the performance of basic maintaining and configuration tasks and compare the opportunities provided by the interfaces. I came to the conclusion during my research, that the target audience of the interfaces is not the same. One of the management interfaces has the goal to provide a simple graphical interface and basic configuration opportunities, while the other one tries to provide as many functionality as possible. With this information it is feasible to guess that which management interface will achieve my expectations.
